Everybody responds to life's situations extremely differently.
Life may sometimes bring about changes that might alter you and people around you for the rest of your days, but how you handle these situations actually reveals a lot about who you are.
The location of your emphasis is another consideration here. Though it might be simple to get caught up in the past and wonder what might have been, is it really the best course of action?
I think that it's important to stop thinking about the past and to focus on the future. The past cannot be changed, but the future is full of possibilities. It's important to learn from the past, but dwelling on it can prevent you from moving forward.
So, if you find yourself thinking about the good old days, try to focus on the future and all of the possibilities that it holds.
As much I love to admire the past and how easy life was especially when I was in elementary school, I love looking towards the future even more. To vision what life is going to be like for me really excites me and that's what keeps me going everyday.
Trying to find that perfect job, perfect marriage or even that perfect home inspires me to keep moving forward in life. Knowing that there are so many opportunities to grow and learn in this world can be such a positive thing. I have noticed that bringing up the past can open up certain memories, good or bad, but there is a reason why it is in the past. I always seem to have one of the most popular Disney quotes from the Lion King in the back of my mind that says, “the past can hurt. But the way I see it you can either run from it or learn from it.”
I think that it is important to learn from the past, but to also focus on the future. The past cannot be changed, but the future is full of possibilities. It's important to learn from the past, but dwelling on it can prevent you from moving forward. So, if you find yourself thinking about the good old days, try to focus on the future and all of the possibilities that it holds.
Yes, it can be very scary knowing that everyday a decision you make is what will determine your future, however, that should be more motivation to forget about the past and to look forward. Though, to be honest, I do have a bad habit of dwelling on the "what-ifs" and the "should haves." Realizing that I was not expecting my life to turn out the way it has can cause a bit anxiety for me.
From dealing with a parent's divorce, family members passing away unexpectedly, to living on my own in a town that I am not familiar with is not only tough to deal with but makes me curious on how the future is going to unfold. I like to take on life with a new perspective of focusing on what will make me happy about the future. Whether it is looking towards the day you get married or something simple as being able to sleep in the next day, each little thing counts.
For me, knowing that I was able to live through some dark times in the past makes me believe that the future looks promising. Do not focus too much on dark times though, because life will tend to pass you by. So get excited, because the future is coming whether you are prepared for it or not!
What are your thoughts on this? Do you think it is important to focus on the future or do you think it is okay to dwell on the past?
The future. In my eyes, people seem so scared by these words like it will physically hurt them. The future may sound scary, but it does not have to be if you do not let it. So I don’t know why we say, “I miss the good old days,” when you should be looking forward to the future instead of dwelling on the past.
I get it, the past was simpler. There were no bills, school wasn’t as hard, and things just seemed to be more fun. But that is not living! That is called surviving and I think people are starting to forget the difference. Life is not about surviving, it is about thriving and you cannot do that if you live in the past.
The past cannot be changed, so why bother dwelling on it? It is like beating a dead horse. You are never going to get anywhere if you keep looking back. The future is what you make of it and I think people need to start taking more risks. Yes, it is scary not knowing what is going to happen, but that is the beauty of life
I think it is important to focus on the future because it is always changing and there is always something new to look forward to. The past is the past for a reason; it should be left in the past.
